Hulking out at The Original Mud Run

...on Saturday, May 26, 2012 with Jorge "I Pulled Both Leg Muscles" Chapa and Dan'a "Virgin Mud Runner" Kiangs.
This run was held at Sam Houston Race Park, the same spot as the Mighty Mud Dash so we assumed it would be the same course... we assumed wrong.  The route had changed and so did the obstacles.  They also had two courses.  One was for the 5K and the other was for the 10K.  Of course we were running the 5K.  I will do the 10K and higher next year.
So since we thought the course was the same as last time my sister headed off in the other direction to get ready to take pictures.  Unfortunately that lead to her missing the first 15 minutes of our obstacle encounters.  I surely thought that we would have no pictures but as soon as she realized that the course had changed she hurried on back and found us to take some pictures and video footage. (Video footage will be compiled & edited during the summer).
So without further ado, I present the photos:

Picking up my packet the day before at Sun & Ski Sports.
Pretty smart move to do it there since people would shop for stuff.
But I am just way too cheap & broke to buy anything there.

Posing before the start of the race.

Time for some stretching.  At least that is what I think Dan'a is doing.

More stretching.  Dan'a just wanted to show off how flexible she is.

And we are off.  See how full of energy we are at the beginning.

Some light running to start it off.

Already covered in mud since we went through a couple of obstacles before my sister found us.

Laughing at the girl trying so hard not to get any mud on her face.

Jorge said that coming out that tube brought back some sort of weird memory ... I wouldn't want to repeat.

Jorge asking for a time out while we wait in line for the slide.

About to climb up onto the slide.

Umm, how far up are we?  And umm, how deep is the muddy pool?

Wee!!! Time to close your mouth & nose.

Jorge looks like he took a beating and he actually did.
See, since Jorge pushed off first (& weighs more) he landed in the water first and on my side.
So then I landed on top of him.  He shouldn't of jumped the gun & he should of stayed on his side.

Crawling our way out of the Muddy Pool.

Look at that expression on the guy about to land in the muddy pool.

Don't focus on me.  Pan over to the right.

Even the Hulk can be light as feather when needed.

Another pose half way through.

About to jump into the 7 foot muddy pool.

Yay, we survived the jump!

That big splash in front of me is Jorge.

The Hulk can be nimble and quick.

Hey, what are you doing?! There are kids around here!

I decided to jump over the wall & not bust it down with my Hulking powers.

Just a crawl in the mud towards the Finish Line.

Last pose before crossing the Finish Line.

Peace, we are out of here!
So Congrats to Dan'a for completing her first 5K Mud Obstacle Run!
Also, thanks to my sister, Michelle, for running around & taking pictures of us even though she was on the verge of getting heat exhaustion for being so cheap and not wanting to buy a bottle of water.

So now I will head off to ComicPalooza to be with my kind for at least a day.

After that I will train again for the Rebel Race on June 9th since that is My Ninja Way!

What a Muddy Adventure ...

for The Cap and his sister Angel. (Angel is the oldest of my three younger sisters.)
First off, I would like to Thank Mud Quest Adventure Run for making this a FREE Family event.  And even though this course was only 1 mile and had only 8 obstacles it was one of the funnest, muddiest and cutest runs I have done so far.  It was so cute to see mothers, fathers and siblings helping each other throughout the course and seeing their reaction when getting all muddy or completing an obstacle.
I would also like to give a shout out to my sister Angel for being such a trooper and joining me even though she did a 6 mile Walk-A-Thon the night before and had no idea what to expect since this was her first mud obstacle run ever.
So now let's just get to what everyone is waiting for, the pictures:

The Cap decided to go casual & leave the shield & full uniform back at The Avengers Headquarters.

My sister Angel. She has no clue what she is about to get into. Hehe!

Her first obstacle and she had no problem climbing it.  YEAH!!

I thought I was going to have to catch the little boy if she accidentally kicked him in the face and knocked him over.
Luckily no foot to face contact happened.

The second obstacle was just a little crawl through some mud.

I just got a Chill from the cold mud in my shorts.

It was cute seeing the mom carrying her daughter on her back through the mud pit.
It reminded me of one of those nature shows.

Angel's first experience in a mud pit.  Look at that expression of Joy!

See, I knew she would love it.

Hey no fair! If my mommy was here she would of helped me over too!

Walls are no match for Cap.  Well at least 4 foot ones aren't.

She had no problem walking the muddy plank even though others did fall.

Now this was the hardest obstacle.  Which I ended up pulling my hamstring on during my 3rd attempt.
So remember what Cap says, "Ow...Always stretch... ow!"

So since she couldn't conquer the adult obstacle, she conquered the kids one.
Even though it took her two tries and she had to  grab on to the other obstacle. But she did it!

Oh, it was a little deeper at the entrance than she thought.

She finally crawled her way out of the tunnel.

As you can see they were hiding most of the mud in the tunnels.

What a refreshing crawl.

Really, more mud to crawl through!

Yes, we are No. 1! Especially since there was no time limit.

A dip in the pond to scrub all the mud off.

So Congrats to my sis for completing her first mud run!

In conclusion this race was pretty different from the rest since there were kids involved. But that added on to the excitement and joy of it.  If there is this much mud in a 1 mile course I can't wait to do the 3 mile MudQuest course.

Now I must go back to training for the next run which is The Original Mud Run this Saturday, May 26th.
Because that is my Ninja Way!

Spidey & Supes go through Hell...

and Hell is way muddier than they thought it would be.

Last Saturday we tackled the Hell Run, a 3.2 muddy obstacle course held in Cedar Creek, TX, which is roughly 20 minutes south of Austin.
After what seemed to be a mile hike from our parking spot we finally arrived at the entrance to the Hell Run as Tone Loc was taking the stage.  Yep, Mr. Wild Thing himself was performing for the muddy masses and luckily after we finished our run he was still performing so we were able to party our muddy arses off to Funky Cold Medina.

It took us the same time as the previous run to complete but this was mainly because Spidey was doing what a Superhero should do, give people (damsels in distress) a lending hand even though that is what probably gave him a sore left arm and a slightly bruised leg.  But that is the life of a Superhero.

So here are some blurry pictures that we took while doing the run with a 35mm Disposable Waterproof Camera.  Which in theory was a good idea but man was it really hard to try to keep the lens area clean since we didn't have one clean spot on us to clean it off with.

Spidey all nice & clean before the Race.

Tone Loc (black shirt) takes the stage.  Sorry, 35mm disposable waterproof cameras don't have zoom.

Let the mud bath begin.

It looks like Supes (Jorge) kryptonite is actually mud.

Traffic jam at the slippery hills.

Supes (on the left with red cape) finally getting to the top of the slippery hill.

People stay on top to help out their friends.
So as you can see Supes abandoned Spidey (Me in red shirt).  Never trust DC Super Heroes.
But that's OK because Spidey didn't need no help!

The mud (or his gut) was weighing Supes down so he couldn't fly over the obstacle.

This is me at the end of the race.
I don't understand why no one wanted to give me a hug.

Supes drinking a beer to get his super powers back.
It didn't work.

It looks like Supes other weakness is cold water.
This must be an imposter because this Supermans only power is to make beer disappear.

And since the hoses didn't work so great everyone jumped in the pond to get all the mud off.
So I can say that this is the first time I ever took a bath  in a pond with a bunch of shirtless men and women.
Or was it?!

Bye Bye Hell Run. Until Next Year

I did have more pictures but most of them ended up being of mud, dirt, rocks or just something that I couldn't make out because of the blurriness from the mud on the lens.

I hope you enjoyed the photos and I am hoping that one day I will be surprised by seeing some of you there.

But until then I will get back to training for my next run ...... Because that is my Ninja Way!
